Agnes Marie Arnold, or otherwise known as Marie, Whoops, Mom, Gram, Meme Auntie Ree, or Reezy, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2020, at the age of 97. Marie was born on December 15, 1922 to Paul and Isabelle (Innis) Kent. She grew up in Marshfield along with her two brothers, Sonny and Dickie, and her two sisters, Betty and Mae. Marie was a star athlete in high school and played both field hockey and basketball. She later went on to coach high school basketball herself. She was a lifelong avid fan of all sports and especially loved watching the Celtics and the Red Sox. She could tell us the names of most team players even at the age of 97! Marie was a very proud graduate of Marshfield High School, at the age of 17, with the graduating class of 1940. Prior to graduating, Marie met her husband, Bud (Edward Lewis Arnold, Jr.), for the first time at a dance in Marshfield in 1937. She said he was actually dancing with her sister, Mae, at the time! Soon Bud was watching Marie play basketball at Marshfield High. They were later married on June 20, 1941 when Marie was just 18 years old! She and Bud settled in a home they built on Depot Street in Duxbury. They welcomed their daughter, Suzanne, on October 27, 1942 and their son, Ted (Edward Arnold III), on September 29, 1948. Marie was a very hard-working woman. She served as a postal carrier at the Duxbury Post Office and raised her two children on her own when her husband was overseas serving in World War II. Her first route took her down Washington Street, Powder Point and Abrams Hill. She gradually increased the size of her route and then was asked to work inside to sort and eventually was moved to the window. Marie worked at the Snug Harbor window for many years and because of her dedication and strong work ethic, she was promoted to the Assistant Postmaster at the branch on Depot Street, a title she was very proud to bear. She retired in 1982, at the age of 60. Soon after retiring, Marie and Bud sold their home on Depot Street and moved to the Pinehurst Village in Plymouth. It was there that Bud passed away suddenly of a heart attack in 1986. Marie then immediately moved in with her daughter, Suzanne, and her son-in-law, Richard Rubin, and their four children in Plymouth. Marie lived her life to the fullest as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She remained a sports enthusiast watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on the playing fields. She loved the sun and would soak it up on the beaches and on the deck in the backyard. She enjoyed traveling with trips that included destinations to Hawaii, Italy, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Florida. She loved to dance and was most impressive tearing up the dance floor in her high heels and flowy skirts well into her 80s with her dear friend Dayo Tassinari. Marie was an absolutely beautiful woman who always took pride in her appearance and was known for her gorgeous hair, her golden tan, her naturally perfect nails that she often painted a light pink, and her outfits that were paired with the perfect accessories whether it was her sunglasses with her bathing suit or her black leather jacket with her slacks or just the right necklace with her everyday attire. More importantly, she was even more beautiful on the inside than she was on the outside. Her family and friends were truly blessed as she always put them first and she was there for so many births, birthdays, holidays, sporting events, performances, graduations, bridal showers, baby showers, and weddings during her amazing 97 years. All these events were special to her and she was faithful at documenting each of them in her yearly planners so she would be certain to not forget any of them and she would reminisce about them in following years. Several generations of her family will greatly miss her presence, her kind smile and her beautiful spirit. Marie was predeceased by her siblings, her husband, Bud, and her daughter, Suzanne Rubin. Marie is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Ted Arnold and his wife Dorrie and her adored son-in-law, Richard Rubin. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Kevin Rubin and his wife Lisa, Beth Rubin and her husband Kenny, Bryan Rubin and his partner Kristin Santino, Heidi Rubin Robbins and her husband Brian, Lauren Arnold Boyd and her husband Shawn, and Andrew Arnold and his partner Vanessa Porter. She is further survived by her treasured great grandchildren who were the light of her life, Matthew Rubin, Eric Rubin, Nicholas Rubin, Ethan Rubin, Amanda Rubin, Tyler Rubin, Mya Boyd, Kelsey Ziko, Lily Robbins, Shelby and Emerson Boyd, and Nolan Robbins. She is also survived by many other family members and friends who will remember her fondly and will miss her dearly. Due to the current health crisis, a private graveside burial will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be held on a later date when social gatherings can resume.
