Obituary of Marjorie LaPlante

Marjorie Toohey LaPlante of Kingston, formerly of Weymouth, passed away at home on March 13, 2020. Born in Weymouth on May 25,1944, daughter of the late Charles F. Toohey and the late Marjorie F. (Bentley) of Weymouth. Wife of the late Neale F. LaPlante of Braintree. Marjorie was educated in Braintree and Weymouth schools and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, class of 1962. Marjorie attended Suffolk and Northeastern University. Marjorie is survived by her sisters Susan Toohey and Cheryl Staskawicz, both of Weymouth, brother Charles F. Toohey and sister in law Barbara of Brockton, and the late Elizabeth Falkowitz of NY, and her daughters Jennifer LaPlante of Kingston and Julia Turner and son in law Tim of Plymouth. Marge will be sadly missed by loving grandchildren Neale, Nicholas, Kathryn, Andrew, and Nathan LaPlante Johnson, and Eileen and Joseph Turner. Marjorie was a lab technician before her and husband Neale purchased the oldest and most continuously operaterated shipyard in the country. Together, with their daughters, they owned and operated Landing Marine in Kingston. Serving commercial and recreational boaters for nearly 30 years. She also enjoyed selling real estate, and for the last 3 years worked at Kohl's in Plymouth. Marjorie loved to travel and made annual trips with her sisters Susan and Cheryl to places like Portugal, Croatia, Scotland and her favorite place Ireland. During the summer Marge could be found at Saquish Beach in Plymouth, enjoying her family and friends. Marge loved music of all kinds and enjoyed listening to Elvis, folk, old country and her favorite local Irish band The Lindsays. Marge took great pride in her Irish roots and recently found out she was 98% Irish! Marge brought sunshine into any room she walked into and made friends immediately. She was known as the “glue” keeping the Sacred Heart class of ‘62 together by planning annual events. Her high school and work friends, along with her friends from Dillon’s Local in Plymouth were like family to her and she loved to spend time with them all. Marge will be sadly missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
