Obituary of Marie D. Lubbers

In her 100th year, Marie Elenore Louise Douglass Lubbers, of Duxbury, MA, passed away peacefully on December 21st at Wingate Nursing Home in Kingston, MA. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 28th at Holy Family Chapel, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury, MA, with the Reverend Fr. Bob Deehan officiating. Burial will follow immediately after at Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury. Marie was born on August 24, 1920, in New Orleans, LA, to Elenore Adorno Douglass and Dr. Frank J. Douglass. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Loyola University of New Orleans in 1941. Marie worked for a Division of Chevron Oil Company as a chemist in Port Arthur, TX, where she met her husband of more than 54 years, the late William H. (Bill) Lubbers of Louisville, KY. Together they raised seven children with an emphasis on a good education as a goal of the household. Marie was active in Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church in Ardsley, NY, for many years, including The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, many interfaith activities and service as secretary of the Christian Family Movement. She was also a Lady of the Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher. Marie enjoyed collecting antiques and was an award-winning gardener in the Fauquier County, VA, garden tour for a spectacular 10-foot Christmas tree decorated entirely with dried flowers from her gardens. She was a premier cook and hostess of neighborhood gatherings. Marie enjoyed many sports activities with her family as an active swimmer, skier and golfer and among the first women members of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY. With her family grown, she became a successful realtor in Greenwich, CT. Marie is survived by six of her children and her daughter-in-law: E. Pine Dubois, Kington, MA; Mark W. Lubbers of Dartmouth, MA; Patricia Lubbers Molnar and husband Dale of Marietta, GA; Charles Arthur Lubbers and wife Susan Gray Lubbers of Eustis, FL; David Paul Lubbers, Huntington, MA; Marie Lubbers Garay and husband Manuel of Manchester, VT; and, Susan Casey Lubbers of Emmaus, PA. Marie is pre-deceased by her husband Bill and her eldest son Douglass Stephen Lubbers formerly of Emmaus, PA. Marie is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Drs. Eve Lubbers Langston and Roman Langston, Matthew Lubbers and wife Ellen, Susan Lubbers Weaver and husband Mac Weaver, Elizabeth Lubbers, Andrew Lubbers, Taylor Lubbers, Dr. Kelsey Lubbers Gober and husband Ryan Gober, Thane Molnar, Christopher Molnar, Iris Gallagher and Samantha, Sarah and Ana Garay. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren: Will, Caroline, John Patrick, Clare and Anna Langston; Graham, Grace and Finley Lubbers; Catherine Marie and Dylan Russell Molnar.
