Obituary of Robert B. Lovett
Robert Lovett of Duxbury passed away on September 23 after a 3-year battle with acute myeloid leukemia. He was 61 years of age. Bob graduated from Wellesley High School, The Northfield Mount Hermon School, University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he was University Honors student and Tulane University Law School.
Bob had a successful career as an attorney, including his most recent 12 year career as a litigation partner at Cooley LLP Boston. He found a professional fit with the trial aspects of law, and fought passionately for his clients. His approach was one of “there is always a way to succeed, just keep looking for it.” He took his fighting and competitive spirit to his battle with AML; each day thinking there must be a way to beat this disease.
Bob enjoyed golfing and following the Red Sox and Celtics. He was an avid reader who enjoyed books about U.S. history, government and politics. He was well known for his sense of humor; he loved to laugh.
Most of all, Bob was a loving husband to his wife Bev and loving father to his 2 daughters, Taylor and Brooke. He was most happy when he was with his family, especially relaxing in the beauty of Maine each summer. He was extremely proud of the young women his daughters have become.
Bob was, and his family remains grateful to his team of leukemia specialists at Massachusetts General Hospital. His team left no stone unturned in the search for an optimal outcome which, sadly, could not be attained.
The family sends it deepest gratitude to Bob’s two bone marrow donors, without their gifts Bob could not have had his last 3 years.
He is survived and deeply missed by his wife Beverly and daughters Taylor and Brooke. He also leaves 2 brothers, Christopher of Newton and Eugene of GA and many nephews, nieces and friends.
A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, September 27 at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston. Visiting hours will be held from 11:00 to 1:00PM, with a service held at the Shepherd Funeral Home at 1:00PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Bob please consider a donation in his name to the Massachusetts General Hospital, Leukemia and Lymphoma Fund, Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540 Boston, MA 02114 or at giving.massgeneral.org
