Obituary of Dennis E. Benton

Dennis E. Benton, 65, of Carver, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 4, 2019 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Kathy (McCaffrey) for 46 years. He was the son of the late Arthur and Ellen (Irwin) Benton. He is survived by his sons Brian of Carver, Paul of Quincy, and daughter Chrissy of Rhode Island. He is also survived by his brothers David and his wife Eileen of NH, Dana and his wife Trish of Manomet, Dean and his wife Jeanne of Weymouth, Darren and his wife Jen of Whitman, Danny and his wife Elise of Plainville and Drew and his wife Jen of Pembroke; his sisters, Elizabeth and her husband Stephen (Kelley) of Randolph, Amy and her husband Bob (Dotolo) of South Carolina, and Kate and her husband Scott (Thibodeau) of Florida. He is also survived by his best friend/brother Joe McDonnell and his wife Diane of Carver. He was a loving grandpa to his three grandchildren: Adrianna, Patrick, and Natalia and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Dennis was a loving and caring man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and loved golfing with his sons and brothers. He also loved hiking, fishing, and canoeing with his daughter, and traveling and dining with his wife and best friends. Dennis had a love for adventure, partaking in hobbies such as scuba diving, cruising on his motorcycle, and spending many mornings at the gun range. Dennis was often found on sports sidelines, as he was a longtime coach of boys and girls basketball, and Pop Warner football. Dennis was the proud owner of D.B. Finishing Co. for over forty years. Despite having cancer, Dennis consistently demonstrated strength and always found a way to truly live life to the fullest; he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to the visiting hours on Friday, August 9, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 130 Main Street, Carver. Interment will be at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dennis’ memory to Cranberry Hospice & Palliative Care at 36 Cordage Park Cir., Plymouth; or Our  Lady of Lourdes Parish at 130 Main Street, Carver.
