All my family and I are really sorry about your father.
All my family is joining me to send you all our condolences from France:
-my mother Michelle and my father René who were very sad not to be able to see him last summer;
- my sister Emmanuelle and her husband Paul-André,
-my husband Philippe
-and all the sons and nephews.
One of my best memories of your dad was when he learnt me water-skiing and all the funny time we've spent all together on his boat. when i visited you more than 40 years ago now. He loved kids and I am sure was a great grandfather.
I remember also how he appreciated french food and good wine at our home.
I will remember him as a very generous and cheerful man.
Toutes nos sincères condoléances. Qu'il repose en paix à présent.

Ed was a kind and generous person who took great pleasure and pride in his children and grandchildren. He greatly valued education and learning (formal and informal) and seemed to live vicariously through his children and grandchildren as they progressed through high school, college and graduate school and began careers and/or families of their own. He loved to hear about their experiences and adventures. He was a gracious host for countless gatherings of family and friends. His good nature and accommodating spirit extended beyond his family and friends also. One of my favorite memories of Ed was when he visited Christine and me in Hawaii many years ago. Ed, to some people at least, bared a passing resemblance to actor Tom Bosley. As a result, Ed was stopped on the streets of Waikiki a ridiculous number of times by people, mostly tourists from Japan, asking to take photographs with him. Some of these folks either did not believe Ed or, due to a language barrier, could not understand Ed when he explained that he was not the famed actor. So, Ed would pose for their photographs smiling and shaking their hands. Most people would not burn a single minute of their vacation accommodating a misidentification by a stranger. Ed spent much of his vacation doing just that. Ed was a generous person and this extended to his time and to strangers and if he could make a person happy in this way, he was content to do so. There were many more instances of Ed providing more significant assistance to people. (Ed employed hundreds of young people, students and adults during his building, developing and hotelier careers) But, that one is my favorite. I will miss Ed.

Dear Keating Family,
Just meeting your father in recent months at The Newfield House, he was a lovely man whose smile will be missed in the dining room from which he could view Plymouth harbor all the way to his beloved Duxbury. He seemed so happy to be dressed up and surrounded by family this Easter. He certainly raised wonderful daughters, as particularly evidenced in Kay's providing fun and laughter in organizing the NCAA March Madness brackets competition among several at Newfield House. Our own dad certainly enjoyed it!
Mr. Keating, and those he loved, are in the thoughts and prayers of the Calhoun family.
With sympathy,
The Family of John Calhoun
