1930-2019
PEMBROKE - Donald Joseph Kluberdanz, of Pembroke, died peacefully in his sleep on April 16, 2019 at the age of 88.
Born in Queens, NY on November 25, 1930 to Ernestine (Brickmeier) and Wallace John Kluberdanz. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Beverly (Smith) of Pembroke.
He was predeceased by his siblings Wallace (Edith), Robert (Audrey), Dorothy Freeman (Howard), and Joyce DeMarzo (Joe).
Donald leaves his children Jean (Steve)Angevine, Donald Jr (Linda Camelio), Phillip, Andrew, Janet(predeceased), Lois, Gerry (Laura), Joy (Michael) McCarthy. Donald leaves two stepsons Brook Durham and Brendan Durham of CA. Donald also leaves 14 grandchildren.
A child during the Great Depression, and honored to be part of the “Greatest Generation,” Donald joined the United States Army in 1948, proudly serving his country in the artillery unit of the United States Constabulary Force in West Germany during the Korean War.
During his time as a soldier he earned a degree in Surveying from the United States Army Engineering School. After serving in Germany for 4 years he was honorably discharged holding the rank of Sergeant First Class.
As a civilian Donald attended New York University where he earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree.
As a Professional Civil Engineer, Donald worked for M. W. Kellogg in NY and Stone and Webster Engineering in MA from where he retired after a 43 year career in mechanical design in the refining, chemical process, and power industries worldwide.
After retirement he served as a Consulting Engineer for Stone and Webster for many years.
Active in his retirement, Donald cherished sailing on the east coast with his wife Beverly and friends of the Catalina Association of New England. He belonged to the Nantasket Beach Salt Water Club.
Donald was also a life member of the Old Colony Sportsman Club in Pembroke, where he designed and built range equipment and loved to target shoot. He was a member of the United States Constabulary. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 0143 of Pembroke. He was active in the Boy Scouts and served as Scout Master for many years in Long Island and Marshfield, MA.
Donald had a lifelong talent for building things from furniture to outdoor and indoor structures. He was an intelligent man with a perceptive sense of humor who conducted his life with passion.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday April 26, 2019 at 1:30 pm at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
