JOHN HENRY O’BRIEN

December 28, 1955 – April 9, 2019

O’Brien, John Henry 63 years old of Plymouth, MA passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2019, in the comfort of family and friends. Devoted husband of Diane M. (Wetherbee) O’Brien, loving son of Barbara A. (Noyes) and the late Arthur J. O’Brien of Boston, MA and Coronado, CA. and loving brother of Nancy Wilkins and her husband Robert of Plymouth, MA, Patrick J. of Kingman, AZ, Mark of Florida, Margaret E. of Portland, OR, Erin M. of Weymouth, MA, and the late Michael F. of Marshfield.

Step-Father of James Elias of Plympton, MA and Charles Elias, USAF and his wife Jeanette stationed in Pensacola, FL. Brother-in-law to Pam Wetherbee, Karen Saulnier, and Janice Beale and her husband Raymond.

John was a member of the Millwrights Local Union No. 1121; he worked on commercial fishing boats including the Andrea Gail out of Gloucester, MA, prior to owning and operating a commercial fishing boat out of Plymouth MA. During 1992 John served in the Merchant Marines/NOAA as a Federal Inspector on the R.V. MT. Mitchell supporting American and International Coalition Military Forces in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the Waters of Southwest Asia and to investigate and assess the environmental damage caused by Iraq.

John was an eternal optimist, outgoing, friendly and generous man. What he loved in life he loved a lot, but most of all he loved his immediate and extended families and long-standing friendships. He enjoyed reading fishing, cooking, refurbishing his antique Harley Davidson Motorcycle, and remodeling his home. He was always the first one to lend a hand to a family member or friend and will be sadly missed by all.
