To Jane, Sito, my mother and most of his aunts and uncles he was Robert
To his sons, most of his relatives and his friends he was Bob
To my brother and me he was Rob.
Uncle
When I was very young, Rob lived on Curtis Ave with us. He was the guy who helped me learn how to operate my small white cassette recorder. I thought it was broken and wouldn’t record. He sneakily turned on the record function and then had a discussion with me about the player while “Hot fun in the summer time” recorded over our conversation in the background. He then played it back to me to get a laugh and prove it was working. Many years later I came across that recording and knew I would never forget that moment.
He was the cool uncle. He was the adventurer driving cross country in his new green Chevy Caprice. He was the guy who working in this new field of computers and yet at the same time worked one day a week at Benson’s because of his love for cars. I would ride my bike over the bridge on many Saturdays, just to spend some time with him.
I relished the chance to go in with him to his computer job and see him feed punch cards into the computer!
Mentor and Role Model
Because of Rob, I became interested in computers. I think at the time, I was one of the first people to receive the computer science badge in Boy Scouts.
Because of Rob, I became interested in cars and by extension, engineering and understanding how and why things work. This had led to a lifelong desire for knowledge and logical thinking. We would routinely look at things that people would do and discuss how both of us would have done the same thing but in a different and more logical way.
Because of Rob, I began my love of music. Throughout his life he would be constantly listening to music. I can remember that he was particularly fond of Cat Stevens and Elton John in the early 70’s
Friend and Brother
Ever since I was a child, then a teenager, and finally an adult; I would have discussions with Rob about the things that were bothering me and just as importantly about the things that were bothering him.
I remember the first time Skipper and I visited him at his first house on Commercial St. in Weymouth. He had plastic beads in the doorways separating the rooms and fed us beans! We were so happy for him.
I remember many times visiting him at 12 Montcalm. We would do projects on his house and in his yard, listen to music, and have tuna fish sandwiches. He loved White Russians. One day as I was up two and a half stories painting the peak of the trim on his house (he was not the best fan of heights), I heard him swearing while trimming the hedges. I asked him what was wrong and he said he was angry because he cut through the electrical cable and it was borrowed. I told him that it could happen to anybody. He replied “yes, but this is the third time today!”
Rob and I went to the Celtics with “Black Water” playing in the background as our sound track. We went to see Yes in 1978 at the Boston Garden. We went deep sea fishing. With my brother and me he did a weekend down to Foxwoods. It would take and encyclopedia to share the impact Rob has had on my life and the adventures we shared.
Colleague
Just this year Rob and I had the opportunity to work together over at Berrybrook School. We both had hoped that this would be the first of many projects we could do together.
Friend
Since Rob’s retirement, many of us got to speak and do things with Rob more often. I would always try to accommodate any offer to meet for lunch. Mostly just to have the opportunity to shoot the breeze, sound ideas off of him and speak about family.
I had the great fortune to go to Duxbury last Friday and spend a couple of hours with Rob. We made some cuts to a piece of wood I needed to fashion for a heater and we reexamined the break job he and I had done on my car last month to make sure the pads were wearing normally. He mentioned that it was actually the first time he used the one router bit he owned. He had so many tools. He was a tool guy.
Mostly what we did was talk about his trip out west to visit Brian, his plans to help Timothy out with house projects on Saturday, and his excitement about getting ready for Devin’s wedding. He asked how my mother and brother were doing. We listened to music, talked about his attempts to learn the guitar, his tools, and about potential work that we could do together. I asked him if he was going to do a project car this summer and he replied “only if one falls in my lap, as I’m planning on helping Tim with his house projects first”. Lastly, we took a test drive around the neighborhood. How fitting for the ultimate car guy.
On Saturday morning I checked in with Rob. We spent just a couple of minutes touching base on some stuff. Rob usually punctuated some of his thoughts by repeating a word three times in a row. Sometimes it would be a nonsensical word such as Zoop. As in “Zoop Zoop Zoop”.
The one used on Saturday, right before we each said we would speak soon was “Good! Good! Good!”.
Yes Rob; good, good, good indeed. Good Son, Good Brother, Good husband, Good father, Good Uncle, Good friend.
We miss you
We love you
Listen to some good music and think of us. We’ll be thinking of you!

Bob was one of the best; he was an excellent manager while I worked at Infinium Software. He was a good man; honest, funny, sincere and I consider myself lucky to have spent 10+ years with him. I know he adored his family - he always spoke of Jane and his boys, and being a grandfather was a highlight of his life, I am certain. My prayers to your family and may he rest in peace.

Dear Jane and Bob's sons and daughters-in-law,
I am so deeply saddened to hear of your loss. I worked with Bob almost 20 years ago at Scudder Investments. Bob truly was one of the greatest, nicest people with whom one could work. For many years after we went our own professional ways, we kept in good touch. Bob encouraged me to visit when I was in Massachusetts, always expressing that it was his pleasure to see me, however briefly, even though the great pleasure was mine.
I always received e-cards from Bob on holidays, whether Jewish like Rosh Hashanah, Chanukah and Passover, or civil, like New Year's and Thanksgiving. We used to joke that we should start a company that reminds you to stay in touch with family and friends, called bobgeorge.com.
Even as a co-worker, it was patently obvious how much Bob loved his family. He told me how excited he was to go to Paris for your 30th anniversary celebration, and how is email was "georgeb3b" because his 3 boys, for "3b", were front and centre always.
May his memory be a blessing for everyone, and may the extended George family know great comfort.

Bob was a brilliant and creative IT professional who saved our systems on numerous occasions. But so much more than that - he had a heart of gold and an uncommon gift for making others feel better about themselves - no matter what their shortcomings. God's computers will never go down - and He'll never receive a finer man.

Bob was a one-of-a-kind! I worked with him from KC, in the BFDS IT world. He could handle any tough situation with compassion & grace, even when those around him had forgotten the same. He was a good person to the core and he made my years with the company so much better. I know he’ll be missed so much, but I also know he will always be with you. I am sure he lead a courageous life and has now won the ultimate battle... god bless you all!

Jane and Family,
I was deeply saddened of the news that my friend Robert Anthony (Bob) had passed so unexpectedly. I knew Bob through work while he was at BFDS in Boston and I at DST in Kansas City. That’s most of my 24 years and still counting. What an unbelievably kind and soft spoken man I knew him to be. After Bob stepped away from BFDS I would be sure to check in with him if I was in Boston, have dinner and catch up on life. Family was absolutely at the heart of who he was as a man. He was giddy about being a grandpa. Life simply isn’t fair to take that away so soon. If you hugged Bob or shook his hand it was like grabbing a hold of rock. And yet he was just a big ol teddy bear.
I remember a humorous golf story. Bob made no bones about the fact he wasn’t a golfer but enjoyed being out with friends, nice weather and conversation. On a client outing in K.C. Bob steps up to the tee with his club in hand and ball teed up. It’s a par 3, so in theory, you reach the green with your drive. Bob pulls into his backswing brings it down and through looking up to see where his ball went. Well, he hit under the ball so much it raised vertically about 12 inches off the tee and fell right back down at his feet. We laughed until we cried. He could enjoy any situation.
I’ll miss his great big smile, soft voice, and friendship. You are loved Robert Anthony, and you’ve given me much more than I could have ever returned.
Sending Jane and family strength and peace in the coming days.
Much love, Greg

I'm shocked and so saddened to hear this news. I became friends with Bob when I worked at Software 2000 back in the early 1990's but have stayed in touch over the years. We both used to get to work at 6 am so we'd often chat and share laughs over coffee. I think of him now when I arrive at work early to empty offices and miss him. Certain people we meet over the years stay with us in our hearts; Bob was one of those people.
This must be so hard for you. Bob shared how much he loved you all; he was proud of his kids and loved being a grandpa! My heart goes out to you.
Sympathies,
Janet

Whenever I think about the special people that I have had the privilege to know, I think to myself, "you might know someone as nice but you will never know anyone nicer."
That is how I think of Bob George. Bob and I worked together at Scudder for almost 7 years. We have maintained our friendship and he has always been there for me.
A character trait that is so important to me is integrity and Bob had that in spades. He adored Jane and cherished his beautiful family.

To all of the George Family,
Dennis and I sincerely offer our condolences to all of you at this really sudden passing of your beloved husband and Dad. We have known
The George Family for so long from Holy Family , and from Alden School , as Tim’s teacher, ( a wonderful , polite young student...), now husband and Dad.
It was fun working with Bob , “TRYING “to teach me the new , voting “computerized “ways at the Town Hall and with Elections in Duxbury just recently. He was devoted to all of you, and especially shared the fact he
loved being a “PAPA” , like Dennis , to your little Jessica. He loved baby sitting! She is a little gift to all of you, especially at this time. Praying for you.
