Obituary of Jean Tavares

Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jean Tavares, age 77,passed away on Sunday January 27th. She was born on September 1, 1941 in Rockland. In 1959 she began her greatest adventure: family. As her five daughters grew up, she spent many a day as a 4H Mom, backing up trailers with sheep and goats, or getting called in the middle of the night when pigs and cows need help giving birth. With her problem-solving skills and keen memory, she utilized her famous board to organize runs and transportation for special needs schools and families. As her family grew she became known as Gramma Jean to all, family, friends, and acquaintances. She loved sitting at the family cookouts and watching the grandkids play with homemade bubble and drive pedal cars down the Plympton driveway. She loved traveling to teddy bear competitions, watching Red Sox victories, and visiting Disney World. She was well known for her famous whoopie pies after school, and mac n cheese during her annual Christmas Eve family parties. She was married to Herb Tavares in 1983 until his passing in 2016. To complete her bucket list, she visited Egypt in 2017 where she got to see the Pyramids and eat local delicacies like pigeon.

Left to honor and remember her love are her five daughters, Debbie, Lynda, Robin, Laurie, and Marilou; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.

Services will be private.
