JOSEPH DEMAS FERREIRA, 98,  passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Wingate at Silver Lake.   He is survived by  Delia (Nava) Ferreira, his loving and devoted wife of over 75 years.   He was born in Attleboro, MA although he lived in Plymouth, MA and Kingston, MA for most of his life.   He was the son of the late Antonio Damas Ferreira and Maria Delphina (Anastacio) Ferreira.  He was also predeceased by his stepfather Manuel Agostinhoand his grandson's wife, Julie (Swistak) Maloney.     

In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his  son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Lesley (Alger) Ferreira of Kingston, MA and his daughter, Jo-Anne (Ferreira) Feeney of South Kingstown, RI; three grandchildren, Michael Maloney and his wife Karaof Rochester, NY,  Sean Maloney of  Saunderstown, RI and Jamie Ragaglia and her husband Paul of Apex, NC and 8 great-grandchildren.   One of his greatest pleasures was following the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren throughout the years.

Joseph graduated from Plymouth High School in 1937.  He was proud to have served his country during World War II as a United States Marine.  He was employed by the Plymouth Cordage Company for 29 years working his way up from errand boy to Head Foreman of the Rope Room.  He had a second career working as a Manager for Tedeschi'sSupermarkets, Stop & Shop, and Angelo's Supermarkets from 1955 until he retired in 1982.  He came out of retirement and continued to work part- time in the food industry for another 20 years. During this time, he and  his wife also enjoyed travelling  -- a result of his other part time job with Collette Tours.

Joseph was an avid golfer and a member of the Plymouth Country Club for over 40 years.  He also belonged to  the Hilltop Athletic Association and at the time of his passing was its oldest living member.  One of his favorite pastimes was playing pinochle with his pals.
