Obituary of Dr. Eunice I. Bloomquist

Dr. Eunice Bloomquist succumbed to an autoimmune vasculitis after a brief illness on December 25, 2018, at home with her two loving children, Noah W. El-Bermani and Alia El-Bermani. Eunice was the daughter of Carrie Stone Bloomquist and Rudy A. Bloomquist, born in Worcester, MA on September 9, 1940. She attended schools in Oxford and Auburn MA, graduating from Auburn Highschool in 1958. After receiving a BS in Biology from Simmons College and a PhD in Medical Physiology from Boston University she began a forty-year career as a faculty member at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.
During her academic career she taught medical, dental and veterinary students in cardiovascular, pulmonary and renal physiology. She also conducted basic research related to mechanisms of high blood pressure, activation of muscle function and inflammation. She served as Physiology Department Chair from 1979 – 1985.
In addition to her children Noah and Alia, Dr. Bloomquist is survived by her son in law Gregory Baldwin and daughter in law Angel Martin, as well as her four grandchildren Sienna, Wyeth, Amina Stone and Ibra Rose.
Eunice was a 25-year member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Satuit Flotilla 12-8 D1NR. In the auxiliary she served terms as Flotilla Commander, Division Captain, and Rear Commodore. She was qualified as a Coxswain Qualification Examiner, Instructor and Vessel Examiner.
