Henry C. Piel, September 20, 1934 – December 12, 2018, Carver, MA, aged 84, the son of the late Henry S. and Elizabeth Podbielski of New Jersey. Husband of Marie H. (Gogolewski), father of Elizabeth (Chesley) and husband Wayne, Katherine (Hardy), Margaret (Murray) and husband Kevin, and Henry W. Piel and wife Carrie; grandfather to seven, and great-grandfather to one. Best friend to fellow lobsterman Don “Don Ho” Hourihan.
Veteran of the US Navy serving aboard the USS Sierra (AD-18) and USS Northampton (CLC-1) as a Pipefitter Third Class Petty Officer during the Korean Conflict. Graduated from Bryant College with a BS in Business Administration. Employed as a field salesman with Victor Business Machine, International Telephone and Telegraph, Town of Marshfield Public School, and owned and operated the commercial lobster boat the “Mary Deare.”
Henry passed away, peacefully, while holding hands with his wife of 62 years in Plymouth. A devoted, and caring family man, he loved the ocean and fishing, learning to fly fish with his father as a teenager and carrying the same passion throughout his entire life. A fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, he also enjoyed opera and was extremely well read.
There will be a private interment service; in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to saint Jude’s Hospital for Children.
