Obituary of Barbara J. (Stevens) Thompson
Barbara Jean (Stevens) Thompson, 92, went to her eternal rest on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer. Barbara was a long time resident of Braintree, graduating from Braintree High School. She was pre deceased by her mother Marjorie C. Stevens and her brother Donald C. Stevens. Surviving members of the family include Earle A. Thompson, her beloved husband, her sister Marjorie Ann Stevens of Riverside California, and her son George F. Finch of Bloomfield Connecticut; her nieces Terry A. Dowd , of Scottsdale Arizona; Diane Wheelock, Vernon Connecticut; Constance M. Norve, Hanson Massachusetts; Kathleen Jung, San Rafael California; her nephews Robert F. Stevens, Halifax Massachusetts; Donald M. Stevens, Longmeadow Massachusetts; Paul Stevens, Groton Massachusetts and Neal Stevens, West Brookfield Massachusetts.
Barbara was a longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star, friends of South Shore Hospital, Council on Aging, Plympton- Carver Triad, Braintree Historical Society, as well as many other community activities. She was an ardent basket weaver, and was interested in many other arts and crafts.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St, on Monday October 29, from 11:00 to 1:00PM, with a Service held at 1:00PM. A Funeral Procession will assemble on Tuesday, October 30, at 9:30AM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, to proceed to the Massachusetts National Cemetery for interment at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara’s name to South Shore Hospice , 30 reservoir Rd, Rockland MA, 02370.
