Fred was born on September 26, 1926 to Howard and Ida Vacchi of North Plymouth.  He attended Plymouth High School, class of 1944. After his graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy.  After his honorable discharge in 1946, he attended Massachusetts Radio and Telegraph School, graduated in 1949 and began his career in the US State Department.  He married his one and only true love, Gloria Maier on October 29th, 1949.  They were married 69 years with a life time of journeys, adventures, and memorable stories.  His career led them to a number of countries: Cyprus, Turkey, Netherlands, Brazil, Iraq, Philippines, and Liberia. After retirement in 1976, he settled back home in North Plymouth.  Here he began his second career of delivering flowers, playing golf, gardening, beekeeping, brewing beer, traveling, consultant work in Oman, and numerous other personal interests.  He also lived in South Meadow Village, Carver, where he met a number of wonderful friends, playing Bocce, and enjoyed times of fellowship with them.  In 2016 he moved to Stafford Hill, and continued meeting wonderful folks both as companions and, more importantly, folks who aided him with enjoying his remaining years.  Anyone who met him was always blessed with good conversation and a cold glass of beer.

Visiting  hours will be held on Friday, August 24th, From 10:00 AM to Noon at Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St (Rt 58) Carver.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army are greatly appreciated.
