Obituary of Douglas Buitenhuys

Douglas passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 11th surrounded by his family and friends after his courageous battle with Frontal Lobe Degenertive Disease at the age of 66.

He was born to Lewis and Virginia (Mitchell) Buitenhuys on Valentine’s Day 1952.  He graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School in 1970 and From U Mass Amherst in 1974.

Doug’s career spanned over 40 years in the Printing Industry including Halliday, NEBC, Plymouth Color and Worzalla.  He was a respected colleague and cultivated lifelong friendships practically at NEBC.

In 1974 he married Maureen Carney and together they had two children. Sarah (Buitenhuys) Hannoosh and Brian Buitenhuys.

His interests included spending time with his family, friends, hunting, fishing, boating, basketball, tennis and RECYCLING.  Served on the South Shore Recycling Committee and Kingston Recycling Committee.

He will be remembered as a gentle, loving, kind, funny, outgoing man whom people gravitated towards.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Maureen (Carney) Buitenhuys, his daughter Sarah (Buitenhuys) and her Husband James and son Brian Buitenhuys.  His siblings Gretchen Buitenhuys, Rhonda Hinchey, Neil Buitenhuys and his wife Bethany, and Paul Buitenhuys.  His three Grandchildren Benjamin Douglas Buitenhuys and Sadie Virginia and Landon James Hannoosh.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 16th from 4-7:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) Kingston. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 17th at 10:00 AM at the Shepherd Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at St. James cemetery in Whitman. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cranberry Area Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
