John Powers Heinstadt passed away at home June 28, 2018. John leaves his wife of 44 years Andrea, his three sons Andrew, Timothy and John, his three grandchildren Bradley, Jayden and Clover; his wife’s family Joseph and Jean St. Clair, Michael St. Clair and Roslin Moore, Judith St. Clair Cournoyer and Ronald Cournoyer and Thomas St. Clair. He was predeceased by his sister Ellen Heinstadt Mosher.  

John was born in Baltimore, Maryland, June 20, 1944. He graduated from Calvert Hall College-High School and Manhattan College where he earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering. John enlisted and served proudly in the United States Navy as a Seabee in Vietnam and Antarctica. After leaving active service he served an additional 16 years in the Naval Reserve where he achieved the rank of Captain. He subsequently earned a law degree from Suffolk Law School. John taught at Wentworth Institute of Technology before becoming assistant CFO and retired as CFO five years ago. Besides serving on the Duxbury School Committee, John was dedicated to his numerous volunteer activities in Duxbury and as an active member of the Holy Family Parish. As many of his friends and families knew, he was a passionate follower of the Baltimore Orioles.  

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, June 30th from 1-3:00 PM and 6-8:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) Kingston. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 2nd at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church in Duxbury. Graveside services will follow.
