Obituary of Gertrude A. Edwards

Gertrude A. (Ruf) Edwards, age 85, of Kingston, formerly of Milton and Cambridge, died on Friday, August 5th, 2011, at the Wingate of Kingston Nursing Home in Kingston, Massachusetts. Gertrude was born in Ludwigshafen on the Rhine, Germany on October 12, 1925, the daughter of the late Paul Josef and Anna Maria Ruf. She met her beloved deceased husband Charles, of fifty one years, at the Mannheim military community in Germany where they were married on August 21, 1954. Gertrude became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America on June 4th, 1956 and she and her husband settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts and later relocated to the town of Milton. Gertrude was employed for many years in the garment district in Boston making sweaters. She and her husband were given numerous certificates of recognition by local community leaders for their tireless work on behalf of civil rights in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Gertrude leaves behind a sibling in California, and several nieces and nephews in California and Germany. Funeral Services at St. Joseph’s Church, 270 Main Street (Route 106) Kingston, Massachusetts, on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 9:00am. Interment will be private.
