Walter H. Savard, Jr., 86, of Duxbury, formerly of Middleborough, died on February 10, 2011 at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth after a prolonged illness. Born in Brockton, he proudly served his country in World War II as a Gunner and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After the war, he owned a fuel oil business in New York, but relocated his family to Middleborough in 1955 to join the family-owned Savard Fuel Oil Company. He is survived by his wife Rose (Aquilina) Savard of 65 years; his daughter, Susan Kelley and her husband Paul, his four sons, Gerard and his wife Joanne, Thomas and his wife Kathy, Walter H. Savard III and his wife Wanda and Gary and his wife Kelly. Grandfather of Julie and her husband Steven, Samantha and her husband Keith, Alicia, Marc and his wife Melissa, Eric, Michael, Emily, Matthew and Nicholas. Great-grandfather of Olivia. Visiting hours are at the Shepherd Funeral Home in Kingston, MA 216 Main Street (Route 106) on Monday from 4 – 8 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM in Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street (3A), Duxbury, MA.
