Obituary of Alan J. Simmons

Alan J. Simmons of Kingston, age 63, died peacefully at home on Friday, November 5, after a long illness. Alan was born in Boston on April 7, 1947 and raised in Weymouth, MA. He was the son of the late Harold J. and Esther (Murphy) Simmons. He was the loving husband of Joan (Urbanowicz) Simmons, his wife of 43 years. Alan was also the loving father of his sons Scott A. Simmons and his wife Tina, Brian J. Simmons and his wife Amy, all of Kingston, and his daughter Linda J. Melkonian and her husband Gregory of Plymouth. Al was known as "Papa" to his five grandchildren, Brett, Kara, Leah, Laura, and Austin. He was also the brother of Ronald J.Simmons of Natick, Susan J. Joyce of Charlestown, and the late Paul J. Simmons of Norwood. Alan retired at age 55 after 34 years of employment at Massachusetts Electric Company (National Grid) where he served as District Manager of Customer Service. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday Nov 9,2010 from 4-8pm at the Shepherd Funeral Home 216 Main St (Rt106) Kingston . Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home om Wednesday Nov 10,2010 at 9am followed by a mass at St Joseph's Church in Kingston at 10am. Burial will be in Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
