Duxbury, MA and Ocean Reef Key Largo, FL. Theodore Hamilton Brodie, CEO and owner of Canton based New England Insulation Company for 50 years, died peacefully Sunday morning September 12, 2010 after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born in 1929 to the late Martha and Theodore E. Brodie of Brookline MA, Ted lived in Brookline, Minneapolis, and Pembroke, before settling in Duxbury in the 1950’s. A respected contractor committed to the welfare of his employees and the insulation and carpenters unions of his industry, he was awarded the Cushing Gavin Award in 1995 by The Labor Guild for excellence in labor management. Ted served as president of the National Insulation Association (NIA), and received the NIA Man of Year Award in 1988. He served as Trustee of the New England Carpenters Benefit Funds and the Insulators Local 6 Benefit Funds for many years. A graduate of Tabor Academy in 1946 and Bowdoin College in 1952, Ted was a student of history and his personal library is a testament to life-long learning. He endowed the Bowdoin Brodie Family Scholarship Award to help middle class students since 1970, the Bowdoin Brodie Family Annual Education Lecture and a Tabor Academy Scholarship. He is a Trustee Emeritus of Bowdoin College. Ted joined the Navy in 1953 and attended the Naval Officer Candidate School, completing service as a LTJG Naval Air Observer (NAOC) in 1956. As a member of the Duxbury Yacht Club, the New York Yacht Club, and The Blue Water Sailing Club, friends will remember Ted as an avid sailor aboard his sailboat Unite. Ted contributed to the Duxbury community as an elected School Board Member, a member of the Finance Committee, a Deacon at Pilgrim Church, and a Free Mason. He supported many local organizations including the Duxbury Bay Maritime School. He was first married to the late Judith Swanson Harrison in Duxbury in 1953. As an entrepreneur, Ted was known for his intelligence and ability to negotiate. He was member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), World Presidents Organization, Chief Executive Organization (CEO) and was active in the local chapter of the New England 49’ers for many years. Ted leaves his beloved wife of 32 years Robin G. Brodie of Duxbury and Ocean Reef Key Largo, FL. and his sister Carol Auriema and her husband Carlos, of Staten Island, NY. He leaves his children, Glenn Brodie and his wife Linda Brodie of Duxbury, MA, Karen Brodie Doyle of Wayne, PA, Beth Brodie of Burlington, VT, Mark Brodie and his wife Margot Brodie of Hingham, MA, and Blake Underhill and his wife Maria Underhill, of Dover, MA. Ted delighted in his ten grandchildren, Lee Doyle, Kate Brodie, Emily Doyle, Sprague Brodie, Brendan Filkins, Holidae Filkins, Caleb Brodie, Jacob Brodie, Samuel Underhill and Santiago Underhill. He will be remembered with warm affection. Donations can be made to Multiple Myeloma Research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and the Bowdoin Brodie Scholarship Fund at Bowdoin College.
