Obituary of Winnefred E. D'Amelio

Winnifred E. D’Amelio passed away on September 12, 2010. She was born in Newton on September 8, 1905. She was married to Michael D’Amelio, a math teacher at English High and Boston Latin schools. She will be buried next to Mike and her son, Anthony, at the Mayflower cemetery in Duxbury. Winnie was an avid traveler. After retiring from a nursing career, she took a four month freighter cruise around the world. Starting on her 75th birthday, she took her five daughters to worldwide destinations every year. She was a volunteer at the Duxbury Thrift Shop, the Duxbury Art Complex, the King Caesar House, and the Bay Path Nursing Home. She enjoyed the “Sew and Sews” at the Pilgrim Congregational Church, and was a member of the Duxbury Garden Club. Her son Anthony, of Santa Barbara, CA and her daughter, Mary Garver of VA predeceased her. She leaves four daughters – Patricia Maurizi of PA, Alice Mason of NV, Sally McGarigal of Carver, and Carmella Loring of Duxbury, and many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Winnie lived by the words – “We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can fly by embracing one another.” In the words of Alice Longworth Roosevelt, “First you are young, then you are middle aged and then you are “wonderful.” She spent many years being wonderful and she thanks all of you for making it possible. Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Duxbury Thrift Shop, Plymouth Cranberry Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
