Obituary of George Y. Najarian

George Y. Najarian 93, affectionately known as "Boompa", of Kingston and formerly Brighton, MA passed away on August 11, 2010. Beloved husband of the late Helen P. (Camuso) Najarian. Son of the late John and Rose Najarian and the adopted son of the late Mike and Amanda Najarian. Father of Robert Najarian and his wife Denise of Hanover, Kenneth Najarian of Duxbury, and the late Diane (Najarian) Andrews. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Brother of the late Aaron Najarian, the late Oscar Najarian, the late Celia (Najarian) Bajakian, and step-brother of the late Celia Gamerikian, and many nieces and nephews. "Boompa" was both admired and loved by all of the people that he touched. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1936 and proceeded to work in the auto repair business. After a stint during World War II of working in the Navy Yard, he opened his own auto repair shop in South Boston. He continued until 1951 when, at the age of 35, he decided that he would return to school and become a school teacher. He was a teacher from 1951 to 1981 and taught at Weymouth High School, Brighton High School and was Assistant Headmaster at Girl's Trade School in Boston. He graduated from Boston State College and then earned a Master's Degree from Fitchburg State College in 1968. It took him 15 years of night school to achieve his goals. He was very proud of those degrees. He was voted Massachusetts Vocational Teacher of the year in 1981. He was also involved in many community and civic activities. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Visiting hours will be Sunday, August 15, from 4-8 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Route 106, KINGSTON, MA. Funeral from the Shepherd Funeral Home on Monday, August 16, at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St Joseph's Church on Main Street, Kingston, MA at 10 AM. Internment in Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02412.
