Edwin Johnston Carruthers, 78, of Kingston, died on August 4, 2010, at Cape Cod Nursing Home in Buzzards Bay after a long illness. Father of Sharon A. Fowler of Plympton, Philip B. Carruthers II of Rineyville, KY, Ernest W.S. Carruthers of West Wareham, Mary E. Waters of Rockland, Elizabeth A. Seitz of Attleboro and the late Todd A. Carruthers. Grandfather of 14 grandchildren as well as 10 great grandchildren. Brother of Jane Harvey and the late Nancy Carruthers, He was born on November 2, 1931 in Melrose, MA, the second child and only son of Philip and Luella Carruthers. He graduated from Springfield High school in 1950. He went on to attend American International College where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration in 1954. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air force and became an Airman First Class, he later obtained his Masters in Education from Bridgewater State College in 1961. His career as a teacher and school administrator for 20 years took him from teaching in Kingston Elementary school, to creating a library for the students of Plympton Elementary. He would then find himself as a middle school English and Math teacher at the East Middle School in Whitman where he would reside until his retirement at the age of 50. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fly fishing, target shooting and always looked forward to his yearly camping trips to Maine; these started as a young boy with his father and where tradition held true with him taking his own sons and ultimately grandsons up to the Moosehead Lake Region. A member of the beloved Canada Falls Fishing Club, he will be missed by all. Memorial visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 17th from 10-11:00 AM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) Kingston, with a memorial service set to begin at 11:00 AM. Internment will follow at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice
