Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Francis J. Grilli (Frank), 86, of Pembroke, died at his home on August 6, 2010, following a brief illness. Frank was born and raised in South Quincy and worked at the Quincy Shipyard and then as a line crew chief at Eastern Edison from which he retired at age 62. Frank enjoyed his retirement years playing early morning golf with his life long friends at Braintree Golf Club, maintaining his perfect lawn, dining out, fishing, boating, sporting events, and spending time with his family. Frank was a tireless volunteer for 13 years for Toys for Tots in Boston where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow Marines while knowing he was helping others. At age 20 Frank enlisted in the U.S. marine Corp and served from 1943-1945 in the South Pacific with the 4th marine Division. Frank was duly recognized for his service, and was honored at a ceremony held in Boston in 2009. He participated in many campaigns, and was an Iwo Jima survivor. Frank will be most remembered as a great guy, and a loving husband and father with a big voice and a kind heart. He leaves his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis (Malerba), his daughter Debbie Quatromoni (the love of his life) and her husband Michael, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Frank is also the brother of the late Ettore Grilli, Laura Berini, and Aldina Giachetti. A private viewing will be held for family members, close friends, and Toys for Tots volunteers, on Wednesday, August 11th from 8:30-9:30 AM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St (Rt. 14) Pembroke, followed by a funeral mass to be held at St. Theclas church, 145 Washington St, Pembroke at 10:00 AM. Internment will be at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Toys for Tots, PO Box 391, So.Weymouth, MA 02190 or Children’s Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave, Boston, MA 02115.
