Obituary of Margaret M. Irwin

Margaret Mary Irwin, nee McGuire, of Plymouth, MA, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 in her family's home. Formerly of Drumreilly, Co. Leitrim, Ireland, she was the widow of Anthony Irwin and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Tommie Henry; grandsons, Christopher and Declan Henry, of Plymouth, MA; sister, Vera McLoughlin of Slough, England; and many nieces and nephews in the USA, Ireland and England. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Anna Maria (Reilly) McGuire, and brother, Hugh McGuire, of Drumreilly, Co. Leitrim, Ireland; and sisters, Tessie Reidy of Watford, England, and Catherine McTague, of Sunnyside, New York. Margaret came to New York with her sister Catherine in 1949 and worked in Schrafft's Restaurant with many other young Irish women. As a homemaker, Mrs. Irwin was active for many years in New York with the Rosary Sodality and Girl Scouts in Queen of Angels Parish. She and her husband, Tony were also members of the Parents & Students Irish Dancing Association in New York and enjoyed many dances and ceilis with the friends they made through Irish Dancing and Music. Upon moving to Massachusetts in 1989 to be closer to her daughter and her family, Margaret and Tony joined Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Plymouth and she became active in many parish ministries serving as a Eucharistic Minister in church and bringing Communion to the homebound, joining the Catholic Daughters, knitting prayer shawls for the sick, serving on the Linen Ministry and helping out on other projects such as the Anointing of the Sick Luncheon, the church garden and parish mailing projects. Calling hours will be held Tuesday May 11th from 5-9pm at Shepherd Funeral Home 216 Main St. (Rte 106) Kingston. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home Wednesday May 12th at 10am with a funeral mass to follow at Blessed Kateri Church in Plymouth at 11am. Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Plymouth.
