Helen Katherine (McGoey) Gavin, passed away peacefully at her home in Kingston on Wednesday, March 3, 2010. She was 68.Retired social worker and longtime community activist, she was a model of service and dedication to all who knew her.Born on January 11, 1942 in New York City, NY, she was the daughter of John Frederick McGoey and Helen(Henning) McGoey.Graduate of Marblehead High School and Emmanuel College. Devoted wife of Thomas of Kingston, MA; beloved mother of Patrick Gavin of New York, NY and Caitlin Gavin-Day and her husband Sean Day of Duxbury, MA; loving stepmother of Sheila McLaughlin and her husband Robert McLaughlin of Plymouth, MA,Thomas Gavin and his wife Rosemary of Scituate, MA, Maureen Andrea and her husband Thomas Andrea of Marshfield, MA, Michael Gavin and his wife Roberta of Tolland,CT and Mary Dougherty and her husband Robert Dougherty of Marshfield, MA;cherished sister of John McGoey and his wife Jean of Rowley, MA. She is also survived by many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchilden, several cousins, and countless friends. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 7th from 2-5:00PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St (Rt. 106) Kingston. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 8th at Holy Family Church in Duxbury at 10:00 AM. Internment wil be private. Flowers are welcome. Contributions may be sent to the American Stroke Assoc., a division of the American Heart Association, National Center 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231.
