Aina (Mucenieks) Kusins of Duxbury died peacefully at the Jordan Hospital on February 25th at the age of 87. Born in Latvia in 1923, Aina left her homeland for Germany when the Russian troops began their invasion of the Baltic States. She worked in a Children’s Home where she met her husband of 65 years, Janis, while he was being hospitalized for a war related injury. They came to the United States in 1951 where they started their family. Aina’s love for children was demonstrated during her entire lifetime. She was a Girl Scouts leader for over 30 years and worked as the head cook for Duxbury High School for 33 years. She retired from the school at age 79. In the summer she would work at the Latvian Lutheran Church Camp in New Hampshire. Her grandchildren all benefited from their Nana’s love and hugs. She leaves behind her husband Janis of Duxbury, daughter Aija and her husband Peter of Westwood, son Erik and his wife Janet of Duxbury, son Ronald and his wife Judy of Harwichport, and son Valters and his wife Margaret of Duxbury. Aina also leaves 7 Grandchildren; Kristine, Erik and his wife Amelia, Maruta, Mik, Mia, Jake and Mara. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Girl Scouts of the USA Fund Development PO Box 19611A Newark, NJ 07195-0611 or to Jordan Hospital 275 Sandwich St. Plymouth MA 02360. Calling hours will be held Sunday February 28th from 3-7pm at; Shepherd Funeral Home 7 Mattakeesett St. (Rte 14, Pembroke Center) PEMBROKE, MA with a funeral service to be held Monday March 1st at 3pm at St. John’s the Evangelist Church Washington St. Duxbury MA. All other services are private.
