In my previous professional position as Regional SHINE Director I knew Joe in his role as a SHINE counselor. He was a dedicated and caring volunteer who reached out to help others. I also know that he was a volunteer at the Pembroke COA putting in many more hours than he was paid for and that his Director Mary Willis depended on him to provide many all the support services. He loved his dull mens club and was a great support to other men who experienced loss in their lives. I will remember his kindness and gentle ways and he will be missed.

Dear Mary, Chris, Kathleen, and Anne (and spouses and nephews & nieces)--
Chris and I are so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing -- and also sorry that we cannot join you face-to-face in prayer and mourning. I always marveled at his deep humility combined with an impish sense of humor. I chuckled (again!) when reading his obituary over his involvement in the Dull Men's Club! He took his and his neighbors life seriously -- with losing the joy promised in resurrection.
Please know that you and yours are in our thoughts and prayers, always hoping for a time when we will see each other again, meet all of your children, and enjoy the bonds our Dads and Moms created for us.

Uncle Joe Collins’ day to day lessons in how to be generous and gentle with those near and far, evoked care from relatives and civic-mindedness from communities. His creation of better families and communities enobled us to greater things. From Uncle Joe, our loyalties are deeper, wider and enriched. Thanks Uncle Joe.

Dear Cousins,
My sympathies go out to all of you. Uncle Joe was a wonderful man with a gentle spirit. My father truly loved Joe for how well he loved his beloved sister (your mother and my namesake "Aunt Mary"), as well his undying care and concern for his mother-in-law, my Grandma. I will always remember that he was a kind and caring uncle. I loved visiting with your family many years ago.
My prayers go with all of you during this difficult time. I truly believe that he and Aunt Mary, as well as my Dad and Mom, are having a wonderful time together in heaven.
Love,
Your cousin,
Mary Buckley Hermann
