Rev. Hubert A. Swetnam, of Kingston. Born November 10, 1917, the son of the late Rev. John A. and Amy Prouse Swetnam in Spring Hill, Nova Scotia, Canada. He became a U.S. citizen in 1942. He was the loving husband of Virginia (Mercer) Swetnam. Hubert was the oldest of three brothers, the late Rev. Gerald, and the late rev. Theodore, and a sister Marjorie Joyce of Riverside, NJ. He prepared for the ministry at Gordon College and Gordon Cromwell Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. He was ordained to the Christian Ministry, January 22, 1943. Rev. Swetnam pastored five churches in New England and three in the Pacific Northwest. As a gifted pianist he had an extensive Music Ministry, which included sacred concert, radio, and evangelistic rallies. In the 1940’s he was part of The Music Staff at Tremont Temple Baptist Church, Boston, reaching New England with The Gospel in the weekly radio broadcast called, “The Twilight Hours” known for its opening theme song, “Wonderful, Wonderful Jesus”. He ministered with the New England Fellowship of Evangelism and Radio. “The Fellowship Hour” was aired daily from Boston. Hubert leaves a loving daughter, Mary Louise and her husband Dodds Cromwell of Olympia, WA, and a dear son David and wife Jacqueline of Waldoborro, ME, and three grandsons and three great grandchildren. Hubert remained true to his high calling in Christ throughout his lifetime. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 28th from 9-11:00 AM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, (Rt. 106) Kingston. A funeral service will begin at 11:00AM. Internment will be at the Evergreen cemetery in Kingston. Memorial gifts may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church, PO Box 510, Hanson, MA 02341.
