Mary Elizabeth Merlet (Drummey) of Duxbury. December 23, 2009. She graduated from Braintree High School and Bridgewater State Teachers College. Upon graduation she spent two years teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Presque Isle, Maine, before settling in Duxbury with her husband, Paul.

She and a colleague brought the Spalding Method of teaching reading first to Duxbury and then to Norwell. She also taught college level courses and in her later years was on the board of Trustees at Bridgewater State College. Mae was known for her high energy and had many interests, which included sewing, gardening, and walking up to five miles per day.
Mae was pre-deceased by her husband of 59 years, Eugene P. Merlet, and her siblings, Catherine Clark, Jean Boyle, Robert, Christopher, and David Drummey. She is survived by her children, Patricia Abroff (David), Eugene P. Merlet Jr. (Janet), and Constance Merlet (John Kowalko), grandchildren, Aaron, Daniel, and Sarah Abroff; Jaclyn, Melissa, and Leslie Merlet; Johanna and John Kowalko, and great-granddaughter Nina Abroff.
