Hilda F. (Kershaw) Carter,81, of Carver, passed away Oct. 14. Born on Aug. 6, 1928 in Boston, she grew up in Quincy, graduated from Quincy High School and Katherine Gibbs secretarial college. She worked for Shawmut Bank in Boston until her marriage to Howard Carter in 1952. They met at Moseley’s on the Charles dance floor. They raised their family in Randolph and were members of Trinity Episcopal Church. An active volunteer, she organized and directed the Girls Friendly Society and volunteered at the church fairs and thrift shop. Avid dancers, they were Charter members of the Square Saints square dance club. She worked as a pharmacist’s assistant to her brother, the late William Kershaw. After retirement, she and Howard moved to Carver. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 57 years.
The beloved wife of the late Howard Carter, she is survived by her children Ellenor and William Miller of San Diego, CA, Robert and Kathy Carter of Lima, OH, and Walter and Mary Carter of Middleboro, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Richard and Edith Kershaw of Randolph, James and Melinda Kershaw of Estero, FL, and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours from the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Rt. 58, Carver, on Oct 22 from 6-8PM. Donations in Hilda’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. or Shriner’s Burn Institute of Boston.
