Barbara A. (Fernald) Smith, 79, of Carver, died August 5th at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Smith, who passed away in September. They had been married for 60 years. Born November 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Melville W. and Dora J. (Hanson) Fernald. She was raised and educated in Randolph before moving to Stoughton where she graduated from Stoughton High School in 1947. Mrs. Smith worked for NCTC as a bookkeeper for many years, as well as Morse Shoe Co. and Lyne Laboratories. She was a member of the First Parish Universalist Church of Stoughton, where she was a choir member for 45 years. Mrs. Smith enjoyed crafts, music, baking, and get togethers with family & friends. She is survived by her sons, John E. Smith and daughter-in-law Ann, and Richard A. Smith and daughter-in-law Denise of Lakeville; her dear grandchildren, Matthew Smith of New York, NY, Michael Smith of Boston, and Samantha and Parker Smith both of Lakeville. She is also survived by her brothers Robert Fernald of Randolph, and Neal Fernald of Canton, and sister of Nancy Savini of New York, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Melville W. Fernald, Jr. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 10th from 4-8:00PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St. (Rt. 58) Carver. A funeral service will be held at Shepherd Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 11th at 11:00AM. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. P.O.
