Please share a memory of Anella to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anella M. Sgarzi died at her home in Kingston on July 4, 2009 surrounded by family and friends. Anella was born on January 26, 1919 in Hanson, MA, raised in Lynn, and lived her entire married life in Kingston. Anella (Scorzoni) Sgarzi was married for 61 years to the late Enzo V. Sgarzi and is survived by her son Peter Sgarzi and wife Judith of Plymouth; daughter Julie Sgarzi of Los Angeles and South Bristol, Maine; two grandsons, Christopher and wife Colleen of Kingston, and Jason and wife Aimee of Spencerport, New York; and great grandson, Julian. Anella is also survived by her two brothers Gino Scorzoni of Beverly, MA and his wife Fran, and John Scorzoni of Kingston and his wife Ellen, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Anella Sgarzi was a 1940 graduate of Portia Law School, originally founded as a law college for women, now operating as New England College of Law. While in law school, Anella served as the Editor of “The Prattler”, an early forerunner of the school’s law review and was also editor of The Legacy, the college’s 1940 year book. Anella was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1940 at the age of 21 as one of the youngest women to be admitted to the State Bar. She worked as an attorney in the O’Neil law office in Boston at a time when few women were practicing lawyers or active members of the Massachusetts Bar. Her classmate and friend at Portia Law School was the late Juliet (Sgarzi) Amerman of Plymouth, Enzo’s youngest sister. Through Juliette, Anella met her future husband, eventually moving to Kingston in 1945 when they were married. Anella was active for many years in the women’s guild of St. Joseph’s Parish in Kingston, pursued her hobby of oil painting, and later worked at the family’s automobile dealership (Sgarzi Pontiac-Buick) in Plymouth as the office manager for many years, continuing to work until well into her 80s. In January, Anella celebrated her 90th birthday with a wonderful celebration at her home for family and friends. For the past several years, Anella was assisted at home by her close friends and excellent caregivers Carol MacDonald of Plymouth, Shirley Webber of Duxbury, Ruth McKay of Marshfield, Sandy Crawford of Plymouth, and Joan Rollins of Halifax. Calling Hours will be held Mon. July 6th from 7-9pm at Shepherd’s Funeral Home 216 Main St. (Rte 106) Kingston. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Funeral Home Tues.
