Albert Dias, of Carver, died peacefully in his home on June 7, 2009 after months of failing health. He was 79 years old. He was the loving husband of Jeanette (Silva) Dias. Born in Yonkers, NY, he is the son of the late Joseph and Ethel Dias. They moved to New Bedford, where Albert was raised and educated. Mr. Dias was a proud veteran with over 22 years of military service during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army of Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Devise (1960), Vietnam Service Medal and Nine Overseas Bars. After his discharge from the Army, he lived in Hawaii with his with his wife where he was a captain of a sport fishing boat where he became good friends with Do Ho. He and his wife later resided in North Port, Florida before returning to Massachusetts. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Upon his retirement, Mr. Dias was employed at Auto Auction in Raynham. He loved going to Foxwoods, fishing, his flowers, and his dogs. In addition to his wife, he leaves his sisters, Eleanor Cabral and her husband Alfred, and Elsie Ferreira and her husband Donald all of New Bedford. He was the brother of the late Esther Martin and her husband John of Fall River. In addition he leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St (Rt. 58) Carver on Wednesday, June 10th from 4-8:00PM. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lourdes church on Thursday, June 11th at 9:00AM. Internment will be at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312 and/or American Heart Association 1 Union Street, #301 Robbinsville, NJ 08691-4183.
