Dorothy Gunborg Berardi of Duxbury, formerly of Marshfield, Massachusetts, died on Sunday, February 1, one month shy of her 94th birthday. She was born to Swedish immigrant parents, Mathilda and Sven Nelson, on February 28, 1915 in Boston, Massachusetts. Married to Tullio Berardi on September 12, 1942, they raised their two children (Kristin and Victor) in Dorchester and later moved to Marshfield full-time in the 1970’s. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 64 years, Tullio Berardi, in 2007 and by her sister, Pauline Stevens, in 2006. Dorothy loved to read and was devoted to her children and very proud of her four grandsons. She spent many years enjoying the warmth of the sunshine outdoors and never tired of being close to the ocean. Her family enjoyed Dorothy’s many tasty Sunday dinners. She and Tullio spent over 30 years traveling to more than 22 countries; she loved to relive their travels through pictures. She possessed a wit and wry sense of humor that everyone who met her appreciated and enjoyed. Mother of Kristin (Berardi) Distelhorst (husband Steve Rankin) of Seattle, WA and Victor Paul Berardi (wife Kathryn Johnston Berardi) of Duxbury, MA and proud grandparent of Gregory Michael Distelhorst , Luke James Distelhorst (wife Ch. Ariunzia), Christian Paul Berardi and Douglas Kyle Berardi. Proud great grandmother of Amarlin Lily Distelhorst of Mongolia. Aunt to several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank her many kind and loving caregivers, especially Robert, the Duxbury Fire Department, the staff at Life Care Center of the South Shore and Dr. Sarah O’Connell. Donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter. A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Sun. March 1, 2009 at 2pm at St. John the Evangelist Church 410 Washington St. Duxbury.
