Obituary of Mary T. Francis

Mary T. (Hines) Francis loving mother and grandmother, died peacefully October 28 at the Radius Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Gerald J. Francis, who died in 1993. She was born in New Bedford, MA, on July 3, 1913, daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Kennedy) Hines. A long time resident of New Bedford, in 1978 she and her husband moved to South Meadow Village in Carver, where she thoroughly enjoyed the best neighbors in the world and her many friends. She is a graduate of New Bedford High School (Class of 1931) and St Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing (class of 1934). She was very proud of her nursing career and practiced her profession for many years. She later worked as a Social Worker for the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of Jordan Hospital’s RSVP program, volunteering for over 26 years and reaching a milestone of over 4000 volunteer hours. She also volunteered at Our Lady of Lourdes Church bingo program for several years. Her family was her primary focus in life. She enjoyed playing bingo and watching basketball and was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics. Surviving her is a daughter, Virginia and her husband Paul of Las Cruces, New Mexico; three sons, Charles and his wife Lee of South Dartmouth, MA, Gerald and his wife Elaine of Amherst, NH, and Peter and his wife Deborah of Columbia, CT, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, November 1st from 9-10:30AM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St (Rt. 58) Carver. A funeral mass will follow at Our Lady of the Lourdes church at 11:00 AM in Carver. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 130 Main St., Carver MA 02330.
