Shirley Jean Philie (Marcus) of Pembroke passed away on Sept 8, 2008 at the Milton Hospital at the age of 82. She was the wife of the late Albert “Al” Philie. Mother of Patrick M. Philie of Pembroke, William J. Ackerly of Worcester, Allan Vantangoli of Ludlow and the late Gina Gagnon, Carol J. Mencer, Arthur R. Mencer, and Robert Higgins. Sister of Irving Marcus of Missouri and the late Joseph Marcus. Many grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive her. Shirley was born in Weymouth, and raised in Rockland; she was a graduate of Rockland HS Class of 1943. She worked at Dean College in the cafeteria, was a homemaker, and a nurses aide. Shirley was a Chaplin for the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post 143 and a member of the Rockland and Hanover Grange. She was an avid music lover and singer. Shirley believed very strongly in Human Rights. Calling Hours will be held on Thur. Sept 11, 2008 from 4-8pm at the Shepherd Funeral 7 Mattakeesett St (Rt 14 Pembroke Center) A funeral service will be held on Fri. Sept 12, 2008 at the funeral home at 11am. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:45pm.
