Obituary of Mary Evelyn Burnett Knight

Mary Evelyn Burnett Knight passed away peacefully at her home in Duxbury MA on May 22, 2008 at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her husband Carleton Knight, and her eldest son Carleton III. She is survived by her sons: Richard Knight and his wife Lee of Marblehead, Jonathan Knight and his wife Daryle of MD, Peter Knight and his wife Deborah of Weston, Dr. David Knight of CT, and Nicholas Knight of ME, 12 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Detroit MI to Harry and Elsie Burnett she was the youngest of four. She met her husband while attending Erskine School in Boston and they were married on Dec. 30, 1940. Besides being a devoted mother of six boys, Mary was involved in civic and volunteer work throughout her life. In Worcester, she was actively involved in the Memorial Hospital Aid Society, Edwards St. Day Care Center and the Worcester Garden Club among other organizations. In Duxbury she continued to pursue her interests in traveling and gardening. Another avocation was knitting baby sweaters for the Fragment Society in Boston and had estimated that she had knitted over 1000 sweaters for them over the past ten years. Despite failing health, she recently celebrated her 90th birthday in Bermuda surrounded by her children, and grandchildren entertaining them with stories of her wonderful life. A Memorial Service will be held at Pilgrim Church, Duxbury MA on Sat. May 31, 2008 at 2PM, burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pilgrim Church Memorial Garden 404 Washington St. Duxbury MA 02332, Cranberry Area Hospice 36 Cordage Park Circle Suite 326 Plymouth MA 02360, or to a charity of your choice.
