I first learned of Laura's death by a friend who has a daughter at Notre Dame. She was a friend of Laura's. I then read about it in the Hingham Journal. It wasn't until I went to work a week ago that I realized she was your daughter, Cheryl. I am an AA flight attendant and I have flown with you. I am so sorry about your daughter's death. I have heard so many wonderful things about her. I will be thinking about your entire family at this difficult time. Take good care of yourselves.

Mark, Cheryl, Scott, Jonathan and family, we are all so deeply saddened by your tragic loss. Laura was indeed a very special person. Over the years watching Laura and Claire grow up together I had come to appreciate the vitality and joy of life she brought to everything she did. I feel honored to have been granted the opportunity to coach her through soccer and I know she not only touched my life but the lives of many many others. Laura will live on in our hearts forever.

I have a book on my shelf titled "Raising Your Spirited Child". It goes on to describe spirited kids are in fact simply "more" - by temperament they are more intense, sensitive, perceptive, persistent... Laura was a very spirited child and that's what we loved about her! When you were in a room with Laura you always were aware of her presence. As a 3 year old at Growth Unlimited, she challenged every rule until it was ironclad. She challenged her parents on a daily basis but through it all they smiled and calmly restated the rules. They admired her spirit, but didn't give in. As a 4 year old she matured and discovered it was more fun to make friends than challenge everyone. Peace reigned and she did have fun. She made friends and in fact she still has friendships today from that first school experience. I know Laura was a great friend.
I had a second opportunity to be a teacher to Laura as her scuba instructor. It was my privilege to reconnect with Laura. She was fun and funny, enthusiastic and determined. I am thrilled it became a family passion. Laura I'll miss you and never forget you. You always had a place in my heart and always will.

Mark: Joe Grace's e-mail to the Class left me in tears this morning. My heart aches for you and your family. I am here in Boston and will be doing my absolute best to rearrange my schedule to visit with you and your family on Friday and attend the Funeral Mass.
With the spirits of the righteous made perfect, give rest O Lord to the soul of Thy servant Laura, O Savior; and preserve it in that life of belssedness which is with Thee, O Thou Who lovest mankind.
In the place of Thy rest O Lord, where all Thy saints repose, give rest also to the soul of Thy servant; for Thou only lovest mankind.
My heartfelt love and sympathy to you and your family.

I cannot express my sadness enough over the loss of your daughter. God must have needed her so much.
I got to know Laura these past few months at the Kingsbury Club pool. She was my lifeguard on friday night swims. I got to talking to her and found out she was at NDA and asked her how she enjoyed it. My daughter was just accepted and I was hoping that we could get together for car pooling. She was such a poised ,confident, beautiful person, someone I was hoping my daughter would be able to emulate. Hopefully her spirit will guide my daughters path these next 4 years at NDA.
We will pray for your families peace & recovery in the days ahead.

Hello Mark, the tragedy of reading such news of a Classmate cannot compare with the sorrow that you and your family must endure ... Acts of God can manifest such seemingly senseless purpose ... your daughter Laura was obviously a rare and exquisite gem and one may take comfort in that not a moment of her life was for naught ... I hope and pray that you and yours may gain strength and comfort in Faith and Love, to hold Laura in your hearts as you carry her forward in your Life; at least when you fly you'll be nearer to her the higher you go.
