Obituary of Walter F. Keymont

Walter F. Keymont Sr., age 87, resident of Dennis, MA for the past 22 years and formerly of Brockton, Holbrook, & Boston, died peacefully while in the care of his devoted wife, family, and Hope Hospice. Walter was the loving son of the late Adam and Helen (Vengren) Keymont. As a young man, Walter, known as “Sonny” and “Wally,” enjoyed playing hockey and boxing, and competing in Golden Gloves matches. In 1946, he enlisted in the U S Army at age 16, serving in Italy with the Occupation Forces as an infantry soldier and cook. On May 26, 1951, he married the love of his life, Alice M. Pritchard, and together they raised their two boys in Brockton and were happily married for over 66 years. Walter was a skilled machinist, working in challenging environments with a career that spanned from Arch Gear Works in Quincy to Jet Products in East Bridgewater, until retiring to Cape Cod in 1995. He was a successful business owner of Royal Catering which fulfilled his passion for cooking. Walter was a dedicated and active father to his boys’ activities, which included annual summer vacations, family cookouts, attending airshows, actively participating as a Boy Scout leader and serving 10 years as a coach in Brookfield Little League Baseball. Walter had a tremendous sense of humor, a dedication to community service and was devout in his Catholic faith which was demonstrated by his active involvement in the parishes he lived as lector, choir participant, extraordinary minister, event organizer, chef and landscaper. Among his other passions were his devotion to his family and especially his granddaughters, Jen & Stef. He also enjoyed cooking, fishing, the Red Sox and the Patriots. Walter was the loving husband of Alice M. Keymont of Dennis and devoted father of Reverend Walter F. Keymont, Jr. of Kingston, and John J. Keymont and his wife, Paula, of Woburn. Loving “Papa” of Jennifer and Stephanie Keymont and brother of Rita Daly of South Boston, Marie Goffredo of Dedham, Ray Keymont of Wareham, and the late Ronald Keymont. Also survived by 56 nieces and nephews and dear friend of Bob Jones of Dennis. Funeral from the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston, at 10am on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 272 Main St, Kingston on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 11am. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Kingston, thereafter. Visitation will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St., Kingston, on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Joseph Mission Haiti, 272 Main St. Kingston, MA 02364.
