Obituary of Catherine E. Roy

Catherine E. (Doherty) Roy, 96, of Pembroke, formerly of Naples, Maine, died Friday, May 19, 2017 at Southeast Healthcare Center. She was the wife of the late Roland L. Roy.
Born in Boston, a daughter of the late Patrick J. and Elizabeth (O'Neil) Doherty, she was raised in Charlestown and was a graduate of Charlestown High School.
Catherine was employed as a book-keeper and retired in 1992 after the loss of her beloved husband, Roland. She was extremely devoted to the Catholic Church and volunteered for all church activities. Catherine was an avid bingo player and loved to travel. A resident of Maine for many years, she relocated to Pembroke in 2000. When her health began to fail in September of 2016, she became a resident of Southeast Healthcare Center.
A communicant of the Our Lady of the Lake Church in Halifax and was a former member of the Sodality of Our Lady Guild.
An avid reader, she enjoyed playing cards and spending time with all of her family and friends. Catherine is survived by her brother, Richard Doherty of West Harwich; and many nieces and nephews. Her nieces and nephews referred to her as “Lovie”. She was also the sister of the late Francis Doherty, Joseph Doherty, James Doherty, Mary Landry and Rosanna Doucette.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Our Lady of the Lake Church, 580 Monponsett Street, Halifax. Prior to the mass, beginning at 10:00am, there will be a family receiving line if you would like to speak to Catherine’s family. Inurnment will be private. Donations in Catherine’s memory may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. .
A celebration of Catherine’s life will begin at noon, following the Memorial Mass at the Monponsett Inn located at 550 Monponsett Street, Halifax. The family would enjoy your presence to relive the memories of Catherine Roy.
