Obituary of Richard R. McLaughlin

Richard R. McLaughlin, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on February 26, 2017 at the age of 81. Richard was the devoted husband of Marie (Montagno) McLaughlin for 31 years. He was born in Charlestown MA and raised in Hanover MA, he retired from a long career as a meat cutter with Stop & Shop and was a loyal member of the UFCW Local 328. He was co-captain of his high school football and basketball teams, an avid Patriots fan, golfer, bowler and cribbage player. He also spent several years helping Santa Clause for all the kids at Edaville Railroad in Carver MA.
Richard was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the United States Air Force where he met his first wife Elizabeth A. (Wood) McLaughlin of Brockton MA, mother to his five children, Steven McLaughlin of Loveland CO, Richard McLaughlin II of Attleboro MA, Karen Tourinho of Taunton MA, Deborah Beary of Abington MA and Darlene Dahlborg of Gorham ME.
Richard was the oldest son of Cornelius and Evelyn (Flemming) McLaughlin, and his sister Carolyn Tretola of Braintree MA, and brother John McLaughlin of Lisbon NH, and his pal Thunder, he was the proud grandfather of eleven and great grandfather to ten, and has many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge two special caregivers, Tandra and Cheryl, with your loving, dedicated care and help with Dad in the end, and we thank you!
Visiting Hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St. Carver on Thursday, March 2, from 4:00 to 8:00PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Carver on Friday, March 3 at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard's name to the MA Humane Society.
