Obituary of Elaine Kuhns

Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elaine (Cook) Kuhns, forever young at 81, and formerly of Hyde Park, joined her son and a host of sisters, brothers, and friends, in eternity on Tuesday, February 21st. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Kenneth Kuhns, and the adored mother of William “Buddy” (deceased), Diana (Kuhns) Barton and Senior Chief Petty Officer Chris Kuhns. She leaves behind the loves of her life, her grandchildren; Laura and Max Kuhns, Shea and Conlan Barton, and Cristin, Dietrich and Chloe Kuhns. She will be missed by her surviving siblings, Joan Meehan, Gary Cook, Judy Cook Scavarelli, Janet Cook, Donna O’Neil, and dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins. As a gorgeous young woman and always dressed to perfection, she was mistaken multiple times for Doris Day. She worked for the airlines in the 60’s and got the travel bug during her time there. While raising her family, she worked as a waitress and master seamstress until the time she and our father bought the Country Corner Store in Pembroke in the late 70’s. They owned that store for 18 years until they finally retired. Over the years, they continued to travel and spent many of them in their 5th wheel travel trailer, blazing down roads from one end of the United States to the other. During some down time, they bought 24 acres of land, sub divided it and named the street Kennie Lane (Ken + Elaine). They finally settled down in their current house on Silver Lake where my mother would spend her days gardening and doing yard work. As time went on, and when she wasn’t being used as the best babysitter out there, mom loved to knit and read her books, spending her days at her window seat, watching the marvel of sunsets in her back yard, always a glass of chardonnay in her hand. She was never without her iPad, always keeping up with the news, and family and friends on Facebook. She was a proudand loud Hillary supporter and hoped she would live to see the day a female President took the White House. Our Matriarch is gone and there is nothing but a void that will need to be forever filled with warm memories, laughter, love and family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the cause of your choice. Hug your children and parents and tell them that you love them. Our mother wished for no “big tah-do” when she left us, so a private house gathering to celebrate her life will be forthcoming. White wine will of course be served.
