Mary Cabral Martin aged 92 originally of New Bedford, MA, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 12, 2017. In recent years, she was a resident at Wingate at Silver Lake in Kingston, MA. During WWII, Mary worked at the Goodyear plant helping with the war effort. She then worked as a nurse’s aide at the Walter E. Fernald State School in Waltham, MA for 23 years. Shortly after retiring, Mary moved to Pembroke, MA where she joined the Pembroke Council on Aging assisting in making rosary beads that were sent all over the world. She was a lover of life and enjoyed spending her days doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her VaVoa. Mary loved a good game of cards, but one had to have a keen eye while playing with her because she had mastered the art of cheating. Mary is the loving mother of Gordon Martin and his wife Gerry of Pembroke, MA and Michael Martin and his wife Patricia of Scituate, MA. She is also the mother of the late Robert Martin of Waltham, MA. Mary is the loving grandmother of ArianeThibodeau and her fiancé Sean Reynolds, Jennifer Gauthier and her husband Phillip, Jessica Heno and her husband Justin, Johnathan, Danielle, and Amy Martin. She is also the loving great-grandmother of Dylan and Nolan Gauthier, Scarlett Heno, and the late Evelyn Mary Gauthier. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, February 16 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St, Pembroke. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 17, at St Theclas Church at 10:00AM. Internment will follow at Mt. Feake Cemetery in Waltham.
