Obituary of Margaret W. Lamb

Margaret W. (Milne) Lamb, 96, of Kingston, formerly of Norwell and Milton, died October 31, 2016 peacefully at home. She was the beloved wife of Floyd A. Lamb for 73 years. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on July 1, 1920, daughter of the late William and Maggie (Williamson) Milne, she lived in Dorchester and was a graduate of the Dorchester High School for Girls. She received a full college scholarship upon graduating at age 15, but due to family hardships during the war, was never able to attend. Margaret worked for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company, where her husband would become Senior Vice President, and Chairman of the Board, of their Investment Advisory Company and Mutual Funds. She spent many years as caregiver for her parents, while staying actively involved in the East Congregational Church of East Milton. Later, she was a founding member of the Congregational Church in Norwell. Margaret spent many winters on the ski slopes at their home in New Hampshire, and later at their home in Bonita Springs, FL, as well as many happy summers at their home in Eastham, Cape Cod. A true nature lover, Margaret had a deep affection for animals and birds. She enjoyed hiking in the mountains and by the seashore. She was an avid reader and was a collector of old children’s books. Margaret and her husband traveled extensively, including many visits to Scotland and Bermuda. Apart from her husband, she is survived by her daughter Peggy and her husband, Richard Blair, of North Easton, and by her son Douglas, and his wife Josephine, of Plymouth. Also by her grandchildren: Ian Blair and wife Laurie, Alex Blair-Lamb and wife Karen, Maggie Blair-Lamb, Casey Fagnant and husband Isaac, and great-grandchildren, Aston and Julie. She was predeceased by her brothers John, Frank and James Milne. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Kingston on November 10th, and will be private for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be sent to the Standish Humane Society, 622 Congress Street, Duxbury, MA or at StandishHumane.org.
