Obituary of James F. Grant

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James F. Grant, Sr., the man who could never drive by an ice cream stand, died Monday, August 29, 2016. For 81 years he was known for raising hell and practical jokes, but never doubted that he would someday be in heaven to see the Lord. He is now reunited with his late wife Carol A. Grant and his two daughters Kim Linn and Kerri Atchison. Born in Boston on June 23, 1935, he was the youngest child of Walter and Helen Grant of Boston. He graduated from Boston English High School, served in the Navy aboard the Carrier U.S.S. Lexington, and attended Northeast University in Boston. His unwavering faith was a testimony to all who knew him. he was a mentor and friend to many who were enveloped by his positive and infectious energy. He was a respected member of the Baptist Church (Dorchester, Kingston, and Hanson) throughout his 81 years. Serving as a youth group leader, he ministered to many. He was in his glory leading a convoy of kids up to Marilyn's cottage, in Raymond, NH, Proctorsville, VT, Maine, or leading a group through a haunted Spook Walk. He would spontaneously take a road trip to Kimball's for ice cream, or Canobie Lake Park. Over the last 49 years Kingston was Jim's home. Here is where he made lifelong friends who became family, and who often lifted his spirits. He always looked forward to starting the day with a cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee, or just being on the golf course with friends. He was a leader, with John Tura, of the Hilltop Basketball League and the Kingston Farm League for decades. Whether working with the Boy Scouts of Troop 49, with his close friend Dick Eldridge at ball games, parades, or family celebrations, the town always had a familiar and welcoming face to find comfort in. Whether by land or sea, with his sisters Lorna and Barbara in tow, he loved to travel with the "Morley" group, and at any age he would never hesitate to climb a mountain. He leaves his sons, James Grant, Jr. and his partner Julio Reynoso of Orlando, FL, Mark Grant of Kingston, Tom Moylan and his wife Nina of Hanson; his beloved grandchildren Jacob, David, Sam, Mike, Luke, and Matt Atchison and Kristi Linn; son in law Dennis Linn; great granddaughter Lillian Atchison; sisters Lorna Bardon of Weymouth, and Barbara Hill of Maynard, and the late Eleanor Curley, and brother, the late Walter Grant. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 2:00 PM on October 2, 2016, at the Hilltop Club Pavilion, 65 Pottle St, Kingston. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in the names of his wife Carol Grant, or daughters Kim Linn and Kerri Atchison to the Breast Cancer Fund, www.breastcancerfund.org.
