Dolly McAdams, 96, of Kingston; memorial services to be held September 10 at Mayflower Congregational Church A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10, at Mayflower Congregational Church, Kingston, to celebrate and honor the life of Anna (Dolly) Hamilton McAdams, who died August 24 at her daughter’s home in Virginia, surrounded by family. She was 96. Dolly, a longtime resident of Kingston, MA, was born in Essex, MD, on April 15, 1920. She was the daughter of the late John Oscar Hamilton and Emma Margaret Wolbert Hamilton. She met her future husband, Russell (Russ) McAdams, while he was working at Martin Aircraft in Baltimore. The couple married on December 18, 1943, and soon thereafter moved to Massachusetts. Dolly was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. An active member of the Mayflower Congregational Church and the Mayflower Women's Club for many years, she served as an example and inspiration to many throughout the community and beyond. She was a devoted Christian who supported missions and sponsored children in various countries to help them have the chance for a better life. Her daughter, Debra Mueller, recalled, “Mom’s favorite question was always ‘How can I help?” She really loved doing whatever she could for people.” Dolly was predeceased by her brothers, John Hamilton II and Richard "Dick" Hamilton, and by her husband Russell “Russ” Preston McAdams, who died in 2004. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Dolly Mason and husband Dick, of Front Royal, VA; Sandy Cobb and husband Peter, of Kingston; and Debra Mueller and husband John, also of Kingston. Her family also includes eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She additionally leaves behind many friends in her adopted hometown, as well as her large church family at Mayflower. Friends and family are invited to help celebrate Dolly’s life on Saturday, September 10, at 3 p.m. at Mayflower Congregational Church, 207 Main Street, Kingston. Following the service, there will be a graveside ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery in Kingston, after which all are invited to a reception to be held at the Briggs Building behind the Mayflower Church. Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal, VA and Shepherd Funeral Home, Kingston handled arrangements for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dolly’s memory can be made to the Mayflower Congregational Church, 207 Main Street, Kingston, MA 02364.
