Robert Dewight Baker Robert (Bob) Baker of Halifax passed away peacefully on August 7, 2016, following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Sally of 48 years, their children and spouses Michelle (Jeff) Baker Ostermiller, Christopher (Jennifer) Baker, Anthony (Katie) Baker, and five grandchildren: Tessa, Keene, Anthony Joseph, Jackson, and Sadie. Bob also leaves behind his sisters Margie Moen and Barbara Specht of San Diego, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob was born on October 4, 1947 in Vallejo, California to Wayne and Elizabeth (Betty) Baker. He spent much of his childhood on the west coast, graduating from Coronado (CA) High School in 1965. He met Sally, the love of his life, as a junior at Arizona State University, while making a homecoming float. They married soon after and made a home in Phoenix, AZ, where they lived with their children for 17 years before moving to southern CA, and later to Halifax, MA in 1995. Bob’s first priority in life was his family, and he worked tirelessly to support them, retiring just 3 years ago. Bob was drawn to the pursuit of knowledge and was a dedicated educator for most of his career. Most recently, Bob was an astronomy and ecology teacher at Brockton High School. Family and friends are invited to gather at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, August 10. Funeral services will be held at Halifax Congregational Church, 503 Plymouth St., Halifax at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 11, with burial at Halifax Cemetery immediately following the service. The family is extremely grateful for the expert care Bob received at South Shore Hospital’s Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
