I only just saw Joe's notice on the Silver Lake Regional H.S. Alumni page on Facebook. I'm devastated to learn of his passing. I share the grief of his entire family. Susan and I were best friends throughout elementary and high school, so I was like a 7th family member for many years. I'm so sorry I'm so far away and could not attend the services. I haven't been to Kingston since my Dad's funeral in 2010. Please accept my wholehearted condolences to the entire family.

Thank you Joe for all of your expertise, passionate participation, and dedication to the Silver Lake Regional School Committee. You were a pleasure to work with and a highly respected member. From a personal side, thank you for all of the advice and shared experience you gave when my son got his motorcycle license last year. You helped calm my nerves as my son began riding. You will be so missed....

My deepest sympathies to the entire Chaves Family. Having worked with Joe for several years on the Kingston Elementary School, I can say I have never met a man so passionate about an elected, volunteer position. He was my mentor and always available to answer my questions, sometimes more than once! I was shocked to hear of his passing and cannot imagine the loss you all feel.
